Adana: Archeology Museum

I don’t know about y’all, but personally, I am a big museum girl. I have loved going to museums since I was little, so getting to visit the Adana Archeology Museum was an absolute treat! The museum is one of the oldest museums in Turkey, founded in 1924, shortly after the beginning of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. The museum moved to its current location, a former textile factory, in 2013. It was officially opened in its new home in 2017!

Visiting the museum was a very cool experience. The museum houses so many different artifacts from different excavations around Turkey. Many of the artifacts were from areas around Adana, which was SO exciting! Some of the artifacts in the museum were brought directly there from local excavations! The museum also covers all time periods- from the days of cuneiform writing, all the way to the Ottoman Empire! The exhibits move in chronological order, which is super helpful and interesting to see the artifacts evolve over time.

The museum is also a great destination for foreigners! The signs and descriptions of the objects are provided in Turkish and English, which makes it super easy to explore even if your Turkish isn’t great. And tickets are fairly cheap too! I would absolutely recommend adding the Adana Archeological Museum to your itinerary next time you are in Adana!

To our friends in the West, keep looking East!
