Karataş: Adana's Beachtown
Every season has unique qualities that makes it special. When the short days of winter transition into the longer days of spring, the desire to delve into the great outdoors and the new life found all around becomes unendurable. We recently satisfied this hankering by heading the 45 minutes from Adana to the small seaside town of Karataş.
While small seaside towns and villages like Karataş do not offer the entertainment and nightlife of the larger seaside cities, it is truly a place to escape the bustle of life and exchange the sounds of car horns and tire screeches with songbirds and crickets.
The town has several fish restaurants and cafes lining the coast. In the town center there is a public beach as well as a few small private beach clubs. The further out of the center you go, the more open beach space is available.
Karataş is also home to the ancient city of Magarsus. While much of the city is unexcavated, you can see the ancient theatre. The views of the coast from the ancient city are stunning as well.
While you can see everything in Karataş in a day, why rush? Karataş has a few hotels and guesthouses which we like to take advantage of so we can watch the beautiful sunset on the beach and try to count the millions of stars showing their majesty in the night sky.
Have you been to Karataş before? What are some of your favorite seaside town and village getaways? We would love to hear from you!
