A Woman's Touch: Turkish Rugs

Turkish rugs are beautiful and distinctly feminine works of art.  The art of hand-knotting these rugs has been passed from mother to daughter for centuries.  Traditional rugs consist of geometric shapes and floral designs with thread that has been dyed from plants, animals, or minerals.  These vibrant colors outshine their modern, chemically dyed counterparts.  Many women carry the designs for the rugs in their minds and depending on the size of the rug can spend anywhere from a month to a year creating one rug.  I’ve been told that women will also express themselves in the rug by making small adjustments to the design.  You can often study the pattern of the rug and find a small irregularity.  Please enjoy this gallery of hand-knotted Turkish rugs, remembering the skilled hands of the Turkish women who created them.
