21 Photos to Inspire You to Visit Southeastern Turkey

 

If I could use one word to describe southeastern Turkey it would be “exceptional.”  It doesn’t have western Turkey’s beaches or northern Turkey’s green, lush mountains but it has a history and a culture all of its own.  Southeastern Turkey is a colorful mix of Turkish, Kurdish, and Arab cultures, which is unique from the rest of the country.  The ground has changed empires many times throughout the centuries. The food is fantastic and famous throughout Turkey.  In addition, part of the region is located in an area known as the Fertile Crescent, or the Cradle of Civilization, meaning that it is beautiful and there is some really old stuff around.  Adana, Hatay, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Mardin are five of the largest cities in the area, but make sure you get off the beaten path to discover the treasures of Nemrut Mountain, Halfeti, Göbeklitepe, Harran, and Midyat to name a few.
